Several years ago, I lived outside a small city in the French part of Switzerland, where there was—and still is—a tradition called First Friday. Starting in the early evening on the first Friday of every month, the Vieille Ville, or “old city,” bursts into life.
Golden light glows from quaint shops along cobblestone streets. Live music spills out of bars and cafés, many of which are below street level, tucked down a short flight of stairs like little surprises waiting to be discovered.
In the spring and summer, the tang of hops fills the air, replaced by the scent of roasted chestnuts and gruyère fondue in the autumn and winter. The event has no age requirement or limit, and it unites people in a beautiful, wholesome way.
In fact, my first First Friday was also my last First Date, with the charming Italian man who would become my husband 3 years later. (He clearly knew how to show a girl a good time.)
Why do I tell you this?
Lately, I have been feeling inspired to put more personal meaning into how we’re showing up for you. I’m a naturally private person, and it’s so easy for me to hide behind my business (not unlike how a designer might hide behind their work). But I’ve realized, over and over again, that you lose something when you hide: the chance to really connect.
One of the projects I’m excited to share with you?
First Friday, our new monthly publication inspired by what I love AND what I know will inspire you. Each month, our community receives:
My hope is that your experience with First Friday also feels like finding little treasures in every corner. 😉
Cheers,
Jaquilyn
